SEED ECOLOGY II 2007 follows on from the successful
inaugural meeting held in 2004 on Rhodes Island, Greece. As with the
first conference, SEII has its core Seeds and the Environment. Seed
Ecology and its many facets (dispersal, predation, soil and canopy seed
banks, ecophysiology of dormancy and germination, seed research issues
related to evolution, conservation and ecosystem functioning) continues
to be a growth area in plant restoration. The dynamics of seed ecological
processes fundamentally impact upon the composition and diversity of
plant communities. Whether botanists, zoologists, conservation or restoration
practitioners seed ecology brings together many disciplines. Seed Ecology
II provides the premier venue for seed practitioners to meet as a single
research community.
As with Seed Ecology I, Seed Ecology II will be of particular value
to students and young scientists, who would perhaps not otherwise have
the opportunity to meet many leading researchers in the field. The meeting
will also provide an opportunity to foster cooperation between scientists
from different countries and lead to closer integration between researchers
working on specific aspects of seed ecology.
The latest and most exciting developments in seed ecological advances
will be showcased. Leading researchers will review the latest progress
and new challenges in their special fields. The core of the scientific
programme will be oral and poster presentations based on the following
topics:
1. Advances in Seed Dormancy and Germination
2. Dispersal Ecology
3. Conservation and Restoration Seed Ecology
4. Soil Seed Bank Dynamics
5. Applied Seed Ecology
SEED ECOLOGY II will overlap with MEDECOS
XI (the 11th Mediterranean Ecology Conference),
also to take place in Perth in the preceding week 3rd-5th September
2007. Both meetings will share the conference field trip.
Seed Ecology II is sponsored by The International Society for Seed
Science (ISSS). The ISSS is a professional organisation of seed scientists
committed to fostering and promoting research, education and communication
in the scientific understanding of seeds.
