Getting Around
GETTING TO THE CONFERENCE VENUE
The conference venue - The University Club at the University
of Western Australia (UWA) - is located on the foreshore of
the Swan River in the suburb of Crawley, only 2-3km southwest of the
Perth CBD, just southwest of the large green area of Kings Park and
Botanic Garden (see map below).

Getting to the conference venue – The University Club at UWA from
the Perth CBD is easy! Buses (Numbers 23, 78, 102 and 107)
travel frequently between the Perth CBD and UWA via Mounts Bay Road,
which follows the foreshore of the Swan River at the base of the southern
side of Kings Park and Botanic Garden. Number 23 departs
from the Transperth Esplanade Busport and Numbers
78, 102 and 107 depart from the Wellington Street Bus
Station. All four bus routes are convenient if your accommodation
is within the Perth CBD, because the buses frequently stop at a number
of locations within the Perth CBD. If interested, bus route Numbers
102 and 107, after stopping at UWA, then continue their journey
to the coast, namely to Cottesloe Beach.
An alternative bus route, for your travel to UWA from the Perth CBD,
is on the buses (Numbers 24 and 25) that travel north
of Kings Park and Botanic Garden, before heading south towards UWA.
These two buses depart East Perth and travel along
the main Terraces within the Perth CBD – St Georges
and Adelaide Terraces. These buses are an option if you have selected
accommodation that is north or west of Kings Park and Botanic Garden
e.g. accommodation in the suburbs of West Perth or Subiaco. Also, if
your accommodation is located along St Georges and Adelaide Terraces,
you can catch either bus, in addition to some of the bus numbers mentioned
in the previous paragraph.

The bus fare between the conference venue and the
Perth CBD is Au$2.10 (the Concession/Pensioner/Student fee of Au$1.30
may not apply for non-Western Australian residents). To download maps
and timetables for these bus routes, please visit http://www.transperth.wa.gov.au.
Download the map and timetable for Western 45 (Bus numbers 23,
78, 102 and 107) or Western 44 (Bus numbers 24 and
25).
An alternative to public transport is to catch a taxi/cab.
Taxi/cab rides from the city to the conference venue cost around >Au$10.00
for a 2-3km taxi/cab ride. Taxi companies include Black and
White Taxies (ph: 131 088), Swan Taxies (ph:
131 330) and Perth Maxi Taxis (ph: 9221 2400)
If you wish to drive to the University of Western
Australia, the most convenient location to park is car park
23. Car park 23 is long term pay parking and costs $1.10 per
hour. It is located on the corner of Mounts Bay Road and Hackett Drive
(click
here for map). All of the pay parking locations are indicated in
purple on the map. Please read the signs in the car parks before you
park your vehicle. If you park in the permit parking areas (indicated
in pink on the map), or overstay the time indicated on your ticket,
you may be fined.
GETTING TO KINGS PARK
Kings Park Laboratory Sunset Supper and Drinks, Tuesday 11th September
Supper will be held at the Biodiversity Conservation Centre (BCC) in
Kings Park. Please be at the entrance to The University Club at 5pm
for bus transfer to the Supper. There will be a shuttle every 20 minutes.
The drive to Kings Park will take delegates through the Kings Park bushland,
botanic gardens and parklands. The BCC is located off Fraser Avenue,
the main vista in Kings Park that provides the striking view of the
Perth City Skyline and the Swan River. It is a view that few people
forget.
Note: Delegates will need to make their own arrangements
to return to their accommodation.
If your accommodation is in the Perth CBD, you can hop onto Transperth
buses (Bus Numbers 37, 24 or 103) for a free ride from
Kings Park and Botanic Garden to the CBD. The bus stop for Number
37 is located on Fraser Avenue and the stop for Number
24 and 103 is on Kings Park Road (both within 500m of the BCC).
The buses travel along the main Perth CBD Terraces (St Georges and Adelaide
Terraces). See the section below on GETTING AROUND THE PERTH CBD to
find out more about the ‘free transit zone’ and routes.

Alternatively, you can catch a taxi/cab. The ride
may cost you Au$6.00 -$10.00 for a 2km trip.
The last alternative, and one that many people take, is to walk from
Kings Park into the Perth CBD. Depending on where your accommodation
is, the walk may take you 15 – 40 minutes.
GETTING AROUND THE PERTH CBD
Within the Perth CBD, travel is also easy – the public transport
is free. You can hop on any bus and travel for free within a given radius
from the Perth CBD (see map below).
For free public transport within the Perth CBD, you can either catch
one of the three Central Area Transit (CAT) buses OR
any of the Transperth buses:
CAT Buses - Each of the three CAT buses (Blue
CAT, Red CAT, Yellow
CAT) follows a particular route. The Blue
CAT south/north route journeys near the accommodation along Mounts
Bay Road and then travels through the Perth CBD before it heads into
the entertainment and cultural precinct of Northbridge. The Red
and Yellow CAT west/east routes cover the
length of the Perth CBD, taking you between West Perth and East Perth.
The CAT buses generally travel the routes that are not catered for by
the standard Transperth buses. The map below indicates the three CAT
routes, and the free transit area (red line).

Transperth Buses – You can travel on any of
the standard Transperth buses (that are
all-over green) anywhere within the Perth CBD (bounded by the red line
on the map above). Given that the CAT buses don’t travel along
the main Perth CBD Terraces (St Georges and Adelaide Terraces), the
Transperth buses are particularly useful if your accommodation is located
on or near St Georges and Adelaide Terraces. For example, along the
Terraces, you can hop onto Bus Numbers 37, 24 or 103
for a free ride up to Kings Park and Botanic Garden.
